Quote for Today
If you have a mom, there is nowhere you are likely to go where a prayer has not already been. ~Robert Brault

Today...
Today is Ash Wednesday. Growing up (when I was very young) I always knew it was a special day because we would all get ashes on our forehead and go to church on Wednesday night - which was out of the ordinary for our usual Episcopal Sunday service and Sunday school. Then we would give up something until Easter. In college, I really began to understand what Ash Wednesday symbolizes to us as Christians. For 40 days, JC endured ultimate temptation from the "bad guy" only to succeed through praying and fasting and then die on the cross - what we symbolize as Easter.
What I really came to understand is about the 'giving up' part. It symbolizes a sacrifice - it should be a true challenge and difficulty for us to give "this" up. So, this year - I am giving up caffeine. This is a true challenge for me as I am addicted to DP and sweet tea. Truly - I get horrible headaches if I do not drink a large caffeinated drink by noon. So - while it is incomparable to the true Sacrifice - it is a challenge for me! And, when I feel like giving in, I just need to remember what this time symbolizes.
Some people keep their 40 day sacrifice a secret - some people share. Everyone who knows me knows I am pretty much an open book. So, I am sharing. (I must say - on another note - it will be interesting to see if of my last 10 lbs of preg weight is impacted by my Lent promise.) I know I will probably feel better - with water replacing all the sugar and caffeine I put in my body.

A great weekend at the ranch with great friends!
So, this past weekend we decided to hang out in Fburg and enjoy gorgeous weather with friends. The ranch was loaded with animal sightings - porcupines, tons of turkey, turtles, fish, deer - so much to see and enjoy.
Luke and little Avery had a great weekend together - chatting, playing, crying and snoozin!
